PostSubject: Battery size   Battery size EmptySat Feb 24, 2024 5:51 pm

Hi
My boat uses a lipo 6.4v 12ah battery
Was just wondering if I could use a 6v instead
Any help appreciated
Many thanks

Should not be a problem, but Lipo's don't come on 6volt! If you mean an SLA or NiMh check your charger. The different battery types require different charging voltages.

Hi,
LiPo should have 7,4V 2S (3,7V per cell)

6,4V sounds more like LiFePO4  (in general safer than LiPo).

12Ah either means you drive for a long time? or fast?

6V would be lead (Pb)  or 5xNiMH ...

usually they are heavier than LiFePO4 (LiPo has even less weight)...

if all components worl with 6V it would just be a bit slower.

You see, many options to answer ...  if you want a 'safer' advice/hint you need to specify the question a bit more
Regards,
Joerg

so then the question is how much power you need, do you need high currents (speed boat, jet)?
In that case the 6V either PB or NiMH should deliver these too. If not (normal to slow boat) it usually should work just be a bit slower.

ESC ususally should handle that difference and if you have more functions they mostly should also work with a little less power.

Why no LiFePO4 anymore??
