I do see just what you are saying, but no the door is at the front of the wheelhouse, some people put it off to the side and make it a sliding door. they say it looks better than having it at the front.

Martin has asked about the voltage reducer that I have used for my LED lights on the Guardsman. I am only using this as the amount of room I have available in the Guardsman is on the small side, and by doing away with the resisters I only have to use two wires for the mast lights.
The one that I am going to use in the Guardsman is an ultra small dc-dc step down module
Input voltage: 4.5-28V
Output Voltage: 0.8-20V Output current: rated current 3A(MAX). Switching Frequency: 1.5MHz (highest), typical 1MHz Output Ripple: < 30mV Efficiency: 96% (max) Operating temperature: -40 Celsius to +85 Celsius The size of the unit is 22mm x17mm At a cost of £1.99 eBay number 193774719501
This is the one I have set up as my LED test rig
LM2596 DC-DC Buck converter
Input voltage: 4V ~ 35V
The output voltage: 1.23V ~ 30V
Output Current: 3A (Max)
Conversion efficiency: 92 %( MAX)
Output ripple: <30mV
Switching frequency: 150 KHz
At a cost of £2.39 each
eBay number 203617794036
I hope that this is of some help as for the mini one I will report back when I have it set up in the boat along with photo's

Thank you Martin yes it does speed things up when you are wiring up SMD's I have noticed that the Neg side of a SMD has a corner cut off, but the test it is for peace of mind.
One other thing I am going to try out is a light control sensor at £2.85 for a DIY kit.

https://www.componentshop.co.uk/voltage-reducer-with-led-display-input-3-5v-30v-output-1-2v-30v.html This is the one I'm using its more expensive than Fred's i just hope it lasts it does work though so far Im going to upgrade the lighting in my yacht so I may use another to power that as it's going to cause light pollution.

Hi Fred, It is the little things like the open skylight that brings life in to your model. Keep it coming.

Hi One & All
Yes Martin as you say it is the little things that bring our models to life, back in the day we used cotton wool for smoke now we have water vaper units, our boats sailed with no crew now we can get crew at any scale thanks to 3d printers, the list just goes on.
But in the end just who see's all these little things only us, the public do not see them, they just see a model boat that looks nice. (Off soap box)

Hi Fred, The main thing is you do what makes you happy after all it is your boat. But i do agree the models we make now are so different and have a lot more working bits and pieces.
Martin.

Now that most of the job's SWMBO has had me doing I have got back to the Guardsman.
One of the things that needed doing was to sort out the hull paint, as the paint that I used for below the waterline reacted with the paint that I used above the waterline, I flattened all the paint and primed it all again this time I left it for three day's and not the twenty four hours so that it would be well and truly hard, as I had run out of red final coat I went along to my local chain outlet (H) for a new can, and yes that has reacted with the primer, so back to square one for me, conclusion do not mix paint all ways use the paint from the same supplier.

Hi One & All
Well its starting to look like winter, (as the song goes) so I have now moved in doors, SWMBO is not to happy with it but she does go along with it in the end.
The one thing that I am unable to do is the painting, so hoping for a fine dry day.

I used a laser Leveller to set the water line, it did not work out to bad I think.

Fred - what sort of laser leveller do you have? I've been thinking of buying one, but am confused by the choice. Not looking to spend a fortune

Hi Barriew
The one that I have is ZOKOUN 2 Lines Green Laser Level Self Levelling Cross-Line Measure Wall Mount UK, I got it off eBay at a cost of £36.89, I would think that you could find one like it at a lower cost.

Hi One & All
Now that the weather has changed for the worst I have had to fully move in doors, so no more spraying, that meant I could only work on the deck fittings. the first one that I started on was the Companion Shelter ( that's what it is called on the drawings) I think I will have to put some portholes in the sides.
I just have to make and fit the hingers now.
I then move onto the Boiler Casing & Engine Room Skylight, now these will be sprayed in time.
The tape is only holding the top's in place until I have fitted some red micro LED's.

I wish I could move indoors it's too cold for me in the shed at the moment it's nice to see it progressing though.

Hi One & All
Thank you for your comments Swab, yes SWMBO is not that happy with me moving indoors, as she likes to keep it all ship shape & Bristol fashion, but as I said it is only until it gets warmer, and I only use a space about A3 size.
As for the build one thing that has come to light, and that is I must work on my windows cutting out, for some reason I just can not seem to get them all square and true, I use a set square to mark it all out but when I fix the frames, it all look out of square, after this build I will make time to practise making windows and frames.
Keep Safe and a Merry Christmas to you All

My workshop is well insulated, and I have a 120 watt tubular heater that I leave on 24/7 from December to end of February. Plus I have a 600 watt heater which I can control from my phone, and a fan heater which I use for 10 minutes if I forget to switch on the 600 watt. Keeps me comfortable for a couple of hours.

Barriew That was the days when I had a heated workshop, now I only have a part of the garage so any heat that I put in just goes out via the air gaps, Great in the summer as the beer fridge is also in there with me.

Sorry about the no post's just one thing after another.
I have been working on the deck housings over the last month, and today I tried fitting them to the deck, the wheel house fitted along with the engine room housing, but the rear crew housing looks like it has broken its back.
I took all the measurements for the deck housing from the drawings, so it must have been when I fitted the deck beams that the upturned came about, I will start by trying to make some adjustments to the front of the rear deck house and see how it looks then, if it still look bad then I will have to make a new housing.

Subject: Hull paint again Sun Jan 30, 2022 12:10 pm
Hi One & All Hope every one is keeping well. Yesterday (29/01/22) was on the warm side so I decided to give the hull another coat of red, when I had finished the wet coat looked O.K, but this morning (30/01/22) it had gone all crazy in places, I will now let it dry for the next few day then I will cut it right back and use new plastic's primer and new red top coat.
In the mean time the first top coat of the boiler housing and funnel has been put on, the boiler housing is an cream white and yes the funnel is red.
The funnel is an old paper towel inner tube.

Glad to see you are still around, I still can not bring myself to go back to the other site full time.
So as today has been on the cold and windy side I started to make the deck grating arear. this is it just laid in place, the top will not be fixed so that I can remove it as and when I need to sort out any problems with the rudder. I do have some commercial wood grating to fix on top.

I have been working on the grating, to save myself some time I went and got some premade grating, and this is how it turned out. I am happy with it.

Hi One & All
Moving on I have now fitted the battery and ESC, the only thing is once I have the deck fitted I am unable to get to the battery, so I will have to work out a way to charge the battery. I will be tidying up all the wiring before fixing the deck.

Is the funnel and its casing fixed Fred? If that lifted off, you would have your access.

There's a lot of room in that hull could the battery be mounted in some slide out arrangement below the funnel structure and you ballast it down to try to compensate for the higher up weight. I'm thinking of the type of battery compartments the off road buggies use.

Hi Barriew & Swab
Yes the boiler housing is removable, but there is still no room to remove the battery. I would think that when this was first drawn up the battery's were of the dry type, I could ask Component shop to make me a set of saddle pack that would go along side the shaft.
This how she now looks with the rear dech housing fitted, just need to fix the roof onto it.

I did give it some thought, but in the end I feel that I was not worth it, this was only supposed to be a quick build after all, I set myself a time of six months, it has taken me eight months so far and it is still not finished, so not a quick build after all.
