Just a little side line in do I’d like to share with you. It’s a piece of whiskey barrel im going to make into a pen.
First the blank is cut to size and drilled to suit the brass sleeves . The sleeves are sanded to give them a ruff surface to help the superglue stick to the wood holes. When the glue is dry the ends are squared with a reamer in a hand drill. The parts are then put on the lathe. First they are ruff cut with auto feed then they shaped with wood lathe tools finishing with sandpaper to 3000 grit.
Next a stain is added followed by a lacquer top coat. The pen parts where assembled using the bench drill to press them home.
There you have it a Glenmorangie pen.
Ps the smell while working on this was wonderful.
Ian
