Hi Steam4,
I can't answer your question but it would probably help with a photo of said steam engine, we like pics anyway and I have a hankering towards building a live paddle steamer at some point so am very interested in all things steam 2thumbsup

What do you plan to put the steam engine into Question

When you get started it would be a good idea to do a build blog for us all to follow Thumbup

Hi Steam4.

There are a few methods but as troutrunner comments, it's how you intend to use it and in what model, what erea, etc.

There must be photo's on the internet of the real boat you have in mind, so will get an idea what it is you want.

Do you just want to insulate your boiler or go for as near as possible to authenticity?

You say the casing gets very hot.
So is your boiler enclosed in an outer casing and you only want insulation between the two?

Paul's suggestion, yes photo's do speak volumes! Basketball
