Interestingly they use the tide/flow of the river and ropes to turn her around.

If you do wish to have a trip on the Kingswear Castle and well worth it, check the time table of sailing dates as it appears she only does about 10 trips a year.

Kingswear Castle was built in 1926, the second incarnation, the first being used in the first world war I believe, built on the dart By Philip and son, it had the original steam engine from the first vessel which it still has today.

Philip and sons Ship Builders and Engineers yard, soon to be redeveloped for rich folks boats Rolling Eyes

The first Kingswear Castle still on the eastuary.

that is a really sad site, might I add, of the old Kingswear Castle lying where it came to rest............always feel a lump in my throat when I see something like that.

Ay least the steam engine found a new home and if I remember some other stuff was saved.

A few shots below deck, by the look of the WC it is original, the bar probably is too, but not the fittings.

superb restoration.................and yet there are people who complain about such expense on old ships...............sad people indeed, especially when you see what pleasure they bring.
