PostSubject: Schnellboot Type S-100     Schnellboot Type S-100 EmptyWed Jun 15, 2011 6:17 pm

having a passion for mtb`s i have just ordered a 1/35 S100, all came about after recently seeing one on ebay that was part built, bidding never met the reserve so i did not get that one, even emailed the guy to make him a slightly higher offer but never got a reply, so did some web searching, couple of places had them for around £90 but i got no replies to my emails nor was the telephone answered, never bodes well with me ordering from companies like that, in the end i spoke to relish models, nice chap called graham, i now have the kit plus both the eduard photo etch detailing kits being delivered to me, £139.45 all in, hopefully a nice project for r/c conversion, first time i have attempted something like this, not interested in silly daft speeds, though i do want the three shafts running, also hoping to get the three guns partially revolving via linked micro servos, ok all will turn together but i only have 5 channels to work with, motors may be the issue because of size limitaions within the hull

big issue could be because the hulls in four parts - making it water tight, im thinking uhu`s version of stablit express on the inside, which will also be used for sealing/mounting the shafts and rudder posts

I'm under the assumption that the hull is made of ABS plastic rather then GRP (fibre glass), in which case sealing the hull would be best to use an epoxy resin, Aradite or similar (5 min, 30 mins 24hour glues are available) as they are waterproof once cured and tend not to deteriorate over time.

Be sure to key up the glue surfaces with some wet and dry ( 120 grit is good) glue together, then over the seams inside smear some resin over it to ensure you glued the entire gap this will ensure its water tight, but only a ''tank test'' (bath) will tell.

Depending on the size of the boat (can you provide dimensions) you may be able to wire up 3 motors to a single esc which means only two channels are needed for moving and turning, leaving you with 3 others for your functions of guns etc.

As a suggestion to motors if your boats in the 36" length, 3 360 or 400 size motors would be more then enough to power your model of a single 20-25A esc.

get back to us on its dimensions and i'm sure we can help you further with its electrical works to keep the channels used to manoeuvre to a minimum.

Don't forget to post some photos of the build because it sounds a very interesting one indeed

from my research it seems i will be 39 inches long with a beam of around 5 inches, looking at pics i have found the hull hieght will be nearly the same 5 inches, allthough ideally i want this baby sailing, i also want it on display, hence the extra photo etch stuff, also the reason why i dont really want to make the running gear totally wrong, i can handle the idea of twin screws with a center dummy, even the center being the primary runner with the outers as dummies, the `e` boats apparently had the out two rudders acting as a sort of trim tab and could be configured a few degrees off center, that though i am not going to do, as i say im not interested in a pekasa chaser , i hope to have it with running lights working, sound for the guns would be ideal, however there are machine guns ( easy with a cheap sound board) but also a 30mm cannon which suddenly becomes a problem as i have not found anything that provides that sound, me being a funny bugger would love to have Das Lied der Deutschen (Deutschland Uber alles) being played from within it

just so happens, i have a brand new in the packet viper25 marine esc cheers a pair of vision400`s and a pair of mfa 457-re380`s

this is the beastie http://www.italeri.com/Kit.aspx?PROD=00823

Triple 400 motors off the 25A esc will do the job nicely, be sure to add a fuse of 10A to each motors positive cable just in case one motor stalls you don't want a fire!
the fuse will blow at 10A on the motors that stalled saving the esc, motor & boat!

If the motors stalled, it generally got some weed or similar lake rubbish caught around the prop.

you can run that setup of two channels, throttle for all 3 motors, and rudder of the other, leaving you with the remaining 3 for extra functions

im assuming the mfa`s and the vision marines are the same all barring the labels, hopefully the boat wont be that long in coming, the photo etch i have ordered with it is out of stock so its being sent together unless theres a a bit of lag to get it in stock, lots of work just to get the hull right plus getting the shafts in, the nav lights aare solid plastic so i need to chop them about so i can add red and green led`s

love to add stobe effects to the guns but i doubt i can drill that small over the length

well its arrived, having read a few posts elsewere i opened the box expecting so broken pieces, nope theres nothing initially amiss, quick looksi at the additional photo etch stuff - think a trip to specksavers may be on the cards cyclops , one ommision i have noted in the eduard extras is theres mention of plastic rod in sizes .5 .8 and 1.0, these bits dont come with the photo etch, while im at it i intend to replace a few of the light brass rails with 1.0 brass rod

last night i went to check my glues, seems someone has inadvertantly left the screw top loose on the plastic weld and its evaporated off, i have questioned both the dogs and both deny any responsibility, they are both mad enough to be sniffers to my mind

next job is to get my head aound drilling out the hull to accept the shafts, as the strakes ?? have pre drilled holes for the plastic shafts im thinking a short length of brass rod then using tube make up the size to match the outer of the shafts im going to use, then on the final tube cut some teeth in the end and use that to bore though, using the rod initially as the guide , the A frames will be bored larger to allow a brass tube to be glued in place

pics later once i have been ` shopping`

Have you looked at Cornwall model boats website for M2 threaded prop shafts, come in a range of lengths, which may be better for you in the long run?

they also stock .5 .8 & 1mm bras rod if you wish to use more scale like sizes, its is worth looking to buy as i do. i have a whole range of materials i have brought but not yet to use, but when i do need them they will be there waiting, i call that stock building.

If you get some photos up we can help a bit further in regards to areas your stuck on.

stands built and the hulls halfs are together and now being left to fully harden off, this is one big boat already, tonight i may build up some of the etch that fits later on, handy having a couple of etch bending tools besides the plier method, allthough you cant see on the pics the etch has some very find detail on it

I believe you when it comes to brass etched detail on micro parts and detailing, i have some myself some no bigger then a hair.. if not smaller!.. handling those becomes a tweezers job with rubber tips and some watch makers pliers.

Keep the build coming bud, i have an PT fast launch to do some time next year always interesting to watch these come to life.

shaft openings bored out, shaft outers are 4mm so i cut teeth into the end of a bit of 4mm brass tube, found a rod that was a nice fit in the openings and fitted inside the brass, slow drill and spent a couple hours boring the tube holes, i have a chap making me tubes to suit my measurements , i will get the shafts over length and cut back to suit once the outers are bonded in
