Happy New Year to all. I trust you didn't over indulge. (Well not too much anyway).
Unfortunately very little modelling progress, partly due to injuring my left hip, arm, and shoulder. The other distraction helping to organising a three-week model display in our local library (Trawling for new members).

Our weather seems to have called a halt to any activity's. A lot of my time is being taken up by the club and learning CAD. I have access to both a 3D printer and Laser Cutter / Etcher. So I am doing something positive with my time.

That's the two weeks club display we had in a local Library over, all went well they have asked could we do it again? Of course we will, but in the latter part of the year. We gained a dozen inquiries, two converted into membership. So all round a success.
So now it's back to the paddler conversion. all the junk collected, you know "I won't throw it away it will be useful". Condemned to the recycle bin, ruthless I know but practical.
The paddle wheels I hope to be Laser cutting in a couple of weeks (access to Laser). I will take photo's of the process as I cut them.

Yes, Paul. It's fascinating to watch the laser translating your idea into a recognizable item. I'm looking for some of my earlier photo's I took when getting started.

In this shot, the Red nozzle in the upper left is the lens which concentrates the laser beam.

Not much progress. I took 5 of our club members to do a 3D printing & Laser cutting induction course. Five hours went by so quickly, we ran out of time before getting around to cutting my Paddles. Blast it I now have to wait another two weeks before I can get another slot. Haveing learned a lesson! Next time I take priority.

Hi, Guys.
No progress on the Paddler conversion, Too many distractions, Club, exhibiting at shows, assisting in modelling workshops. Generally playing with all the other grown up children, just enjoying myself.
Lyn & I always gave my Father-in-Law a bottle of Brandy as part of his birthday gift. this year I thought I would put in a presentation case.
Contacting the Lab, explaining what I proposed they allocated me a free spot on Monday 22nd May.
So just a little diversion from the purpose of this thread, but I thought you may like to see how the gift pack was made.
John's Birthday Project
Starting with a cardboard proof to make sure the lettering didn't fall out.

Finished & varnished ready to give to John.
Timewise. Designing, prep and programming 45 minutes. Etching took 29 minutes and cutting 3 ½ minutes. So 1hr 17-1/2min add in coffee breaks 2hrs and done.
I am pleased with it John definitely is he's telling and showing it to everyone.
Now the BIG BUT!!!
I am not happy with the varnishing.
So next week I will be having it back to hopefully improve the finishing.

Thanks, guys, just a little diversion but thought you may be interested.
John has sent photo’s of it to his sister & brother-in-law in Australia who went out in the 50s as £10 poms! nephew’s & niece’s in Canada & America, so he’s chuffed with it.
Paul. It was just by accident I came across the Laser. Here in "good old Blighty" we have Meetup groups. I was steered to the Meetup Bournemouth groups on there I found a local group running as "Make Bournemouth" they met once a month at Barclay’s lab, it’s mainly for start up business and enterprise groups. In their group blurb “3D printing” this interested me so I joined the group. The first evening with them, five members soldering wires muttering some obscure language Arduino. My attention was drawn to the work area with two 3D printers and a largish Laser cutting machine. I enquired about these and was recommended to apply for one of the induction courses. (Free to non Businesses). Laser cutting this was for me, what I wanted to have a go at. My interest being noted by the Lab technical manager (A very clever Lady). Who has helped me with my progress, also arranging for my model club members to take the course, helping them with their projects 3D & Laser work. Unfortunately, I take around five or six of them with me (I let them go first) time is limited I miss out. Spotting this she said if I had any special project I want to try let her know and she would create a 2 hour slot for me, that’s what happened on Monday the 22nd. The original Make Bournemouth, no longer meet, no one to organise or run it.
Try this link, Paul. www.meetup.com/cities/gb/h7/lincoln/ Put in your area and what groups you are interested in and a radius around where you live. You will find all types. It’s not all dating or dog walking etc, it just lists all the registered groups you have to find your one.
I just opened that link put in 3D printing 25ml radius of Lincoln.
Result. GRIMSBY TECHSPACE MEETUPTechnological activities, including 3d printers, Laser cutting, Pi and Arduino.
Now I really must get back to my Paddler conversion.

I have been busy with our club and a little health problem so nothing achieved.
Photobucket has hijacked all my photo postings, they are asking a few hundred quid for me to upgrade. I will have to try to find another free alternative, perhaps Photobucket may have shot themselves in the foot with this one.
Paul did you get anywhere with the 3D / Laser meetup in your area.

Just testing again to see what happens with PB.
It appears in the background, there is a photo in here, but will it print? I have been told that PB no longer supports any third party postings without the $400 upgrade payment.
No, so it's back to how to upload an Imgur photo in a posting?

Hi Guys.
I've not been on due to suffering a stroke in September last year, I am recovering very well now and feel like getting involved once more.
Has Photobucket relented and reinstalled all my photo's?
Please, could you let me know if the forum is able to view them or is it I am the only one who can see them on my computer?

Thanks, RR for letting me know my piccy's are on view.
While they are there I will note the order they appear then locate my originals in case it's just a fluke. Should the existing ones go again would it be possible to replace the deleted ones as originally posted through the forum.
I propose to post any future photos via the forum facility.

Hi Brian, good to hear you are feeling a bit better, I look forward to your posts.
On the Photobucket issue, do you pay and annual amount for any storage or is it as you say a fluke, I pay and have been paying £25ish quid for several years and they appear to have left me alone apart from the badgering to upgrade and pay more money but I am only using about 10% of the storage I pay for so why should I need to.

Thank you, Neil, for the welcome back. Things are improving all the time just a little awkward at the moment, left foot bit of a shuffle. Left arm a little more restricted it’s my hand that I’m having more of a problem with, particularly holding, more so gripping.

Thank you, too Paul.
Photobucket, I only had the free version. Their demand to pay $400 for an upgrade or else (blackmail), not my style. So they deleted all the photographs I had posted on here also everywhere I had included a photo using Photobucket. I was a bit disgruntled when this happened. You need the words and music to make a posting flow.
So how did this resurrection occur? not sure. February in a hurry to get back into using my computer again I clumsily pressed a wrong key. Disorientated (confused) I pressed more wrong keys and totally obliterated everything on my computer worse still I had reverted back to the original maker's basic setup. I lost everything all the preloaded programs just disappeared. I believe they are lurking somewhere on the hard drive. Both of my grandsons managed to reload some and have found others.
Not sure if this error has taken my Photobucket settings back to my original configuration but it would seem all my photos here and elsewhere are now in place.
So change of heart (Photobucket no). Fluke (maybe). Or simply my clumsiness anybody’s guess. Just fingers crossed Photobucket doesn’t delete them again.

Photobucket went right down hill after Instagram came out ( since that’s the photo host for Facebook) so many people had the same issues with them wanting exaggerated payments for Just hosting photos when they started was their primary function.
Cash cow to the masses.
I got lucky when I left another forum and I closed my photo bucket account the photos vanished from the forum too... at the time that didnt bother me what so ever, was kinda pleased actually.
But now finding a decent external host free is pretty much non existent, most free accounts have bandwidth limits and in this day and age with unlimited internet usage you’ll think bandwidth wouldn’t be an issues but nope it’s a “premium service” one I refuse to pay for privately just to host photos for blogging.
The forums own photo host is very basic however because it’s part of the forums system I just pay for the amount of space required each year.
I hate looking at storage numbers but I can promise you right now we’re into the terabyte ranges at present!
Cost wise.... put it this way..... a $400 annually photobucket account would see the forum good for about 6 years including the copy right!
Like most things there so few company’s offering reliable service and no regulations on costs for these things as the internet I still pretty much free domain and no one country can fully control it there will always be that stigma that your gonna have to pay extra for a service. Internet prostitution? Or just one giant con for the nerds who can play with coding all day to get rich on social media.. almost as bad as full time you tubers who need to get off their asss and contribute to society rather than messing around all day and get paid for it!
The worlds going mad!
And it’s only getting worse!

Hi Martin Foremost it is nice to be able to click onto a profile and actually see something that helps to understand how to respond to a post.
You are a very busy person, so much time to go through all the posts on the forum. Thank you for your interest in all that forum members have posted over the years very much appreciated.
The laser cutting was by accident, Having over the years become interested in 3D printing and printers were not as affordable as they are now it stayed in the “one day maybe“ section. Then I saw that a local maker group were looking for members Electronics (Arduino) and 3D printing with access to two expensive 3D printers (only to be used under instruction). Arduino ( A foreign language ) to me but the Printers were my goal. When I first entered the workshop and spotted the Laser cutter ( an expensive professional one) Sold I had to join. It went on from there I have two 3D printers which I keep busy making parts for some of my alternative hobbies. I did buy a K40 Laser Cutter from EVIL BAY. Used it a couple of times results were not up to the standard I would have liked so gathering dust for now. Unfortunately, the past two years seem to have curtailed all those types of activities.

Hi Oldsmokey,
I do have plenty of time to look around the site as i have taken early retirement. I have been model making most of my life and have made most types of models. I like to think that by looking around the site and being active here is like being a member of a model club.
As i don't go to any model boat club i find this is the best next thing to do, and by having a chat here is as good as being lakeside. Talking boats and sharing information and tips is what i think it's all about. Hopefully new guys to the hobby will gain valuable information and help to keep this hobby alive.
I also have some very good friends that get together on Skype and we talk about all sorts of things.
I have helped many model makers solve problems and get there boats working on Skype sessions as it is a lot easer that trying to send emails back and forth.
Anyway that is enough about me.
I am looking forward to communicating with the members on this site.
