A tip I was shown was to use a soft brass brush to burnish fittings, it takes the shine of them but gives them a nice luster also if there is soft solder it blends it in , you can use a copper brush as well but the old hush Puppy brushes that Dave (Norsman) uses on his brothel creepers are fine

these parts where all being painted so it didn't matter but it is good if you have got a light tarnish as it gets in to small crevasses, don't use steel as it scratches that is why I use copper as it is softer, but hush puppy brushes are very soft, the brass brushes where got from an engineering rally prob Tracy tools or chronos or even the one on the south coast that is closing that I cannot rember the name off

hope this helps

Peter

Hi Peter

My wife threw all my old Brothel creepers out - it's just slippers for me now mate. Gaffer tape round the toes keeps them toasty warm and a touch of mastic holds them all together for yet another year.

Re that very tidy brasswork - it was a nice lesson but now you'll have to show me how to paint it too:) and I know how you hate painting:lol:

Nice Peter, love that searchlight, puts mine to shame, might have to make another one now, perhaps you could give us a lesson on making one.
