New To Boats Empty
PostSubject: New To Boats   New To Boats EmptyMon Sep 11, 2023 6:25 pm

Hi All,
just a quick line to let you know that I am a novice to all this , but am learning all the time.
I have joined my local boat club and really enjoying it.
I have a passion for Lifeboats, (i dont know why) but I am struggling to find any boats or kits.
maybe some of you can help.

Anyway if anyone wants to know more about me, dont be shy,

just ask!

Hi,
a bit hard for a beginner:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

just a hull and plan....
I'm working on that currently...    [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

another old, but probably easy for a starter:

or more:

speedline models are somehow back:

If you like small ones:

There are some reports/blogs and youtube videos how to make it RC usable. It's possible I'm also working on that.

.... of course from time to time there are affordable ones on ebay, there it's probably good to ask some of your clubmates to have a look at.

good luck, and welcome!
Joerg

I never planned to build that Tyne stuff... covid time... boring xmas holidays ... to many RNLI videos ... asked a friend what he thinks about the sarihobbies stuff... "got it before brexit, you can have it for 30€" ....   f*** .... one bad night and it went from south to north germany...

I learned a lot about RNLI since then, got a MERSEY 1:20 Kit from Sievers (Hannover, Germany) on stock, the type which currently runs down the Douglas slipway.

scale was somthing like 5/8 to a foot or so... 1/18-1/19 74.x cm hull.

At that time the pound price was about 40 for hull and plan, now it's more.  If you're after something you see on photos, you have to be carefull with the plan. Some things changed. But there are some build reports here and there.

Cheap but probably getting a hull, deck and deckshouse may be worth the higher price.

Well, either you buy or you work... (or print)
depends on you skills, your machinery/tools and your bank acount  [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Second hand prices are usually not better, more a matter of patience and luck.

There are 2 3D Print models for the Shannon in 1:20 (I think)
One free at thingiverse.com
and one for 64€
at cults.3D [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

(the price was 25€ had a few weeks sale for 12,50  (when I bought it) now it's a bit much, I think)

You need to habe a 3D printer and time.  Recently read on facebook the the printing time will be at least 4.5days alltogether for the thingiverse files, and 3 rolls of filament (rough 60€) ....
