Nisse Whaler Empty
PostSubject: Nisse Whaler   Nisse Whaler EmptyThu Aug 10, 2017 3:02 pm

I have just bought a model of a Norwegian steam whaler called Nisse from a junk shop.  She's plank on frame and 30 inches long. Fairly well built but not that well finished and with some parts - the winch for example - looking ready made. I will be refurbishing her and replacing the fairly old fashioned electrics - there's no transmitter.  I can't work out whether she is scratch built or from a kit.  Any thoughts?  Am I posting this in the right section? (I think this very helpful forum has too many sections!)

Can you tell me how to post a photo which is currently sitting on my microsoft telephone.  I have no idea how to do it so I'm afraid the instructions need to be fairly specific!

Richard - that might be tricky as I doubt any of us has one of those! However if you can email it to me, then I will post it for you.

OK - it would appear that somehow or other Windows Phone has locked these photos so that although they view correctly on my PC, when I rotate them it doesn't actually change the actual file, so that when I send it to the host site it is still wrong way up.
I can't see any solution to this not having a Windows Phone or knowing anything about them :shoc
Tomorrow I will remove the above post and re-post with all the photos - albeit wrong way up Rolling Eyes

Barrie

Just discovered that if you click on the photo it is displayed right way up - at least it is on my Android tablet.

Tried it again this morning and only applies to one of the photos Rolling Eyes

I have now deleted the original post and started again.

Sorry about all this - in the end the photos were taken on my daughter's Andoid phone.

No problem Richard. I regularly post photos from my Android phones so I am sure we will get there! I seem to have upset the host with too much traffic, so it was taking ages to type a line. I will return to this later.

OK, if I am right, these photos will appear upside down! Right click on them and click on Open Image in New Tab and you will get a right side up photo!

Richard

Now to answer your question! There is/was a kit of a Whaler called I think the Rau X . It was made by either Billings or Graupner I believe. If yours was a kit, I would think that some of the bulkheads would have printing on them.
Its certainly a bit of a mess! The motor and ESC look OK.

If you scroll down this thread http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=18575.0 you should see some photos.

yes..the old graupner kit of RAU IX.................. I built one many years ago....early 80's. it had a ABS hull with wooden deck and superstructure with all plastic fittings and an abs funnel in two halves.........they were a beautiful kit to put together even for those new to the hobby............loved mine and she sailed really well.........gave it away in the end to a fellow teacher who fancied model boat sailing but hadn't a clue how to build one.............if I had the money and the chance i'd by another kit and build again.

My Nisse Whaler is quite definitely plank on frame.  I have not got it home yet or stripped out the electrics but as far as I can see it looks scratch built - no visible marks on the frames.  I'll post more once I have had a better look inside - bought in a Fishguard junk shop and to be restored in Tisbury.  As a near beginner (Puffer and Flower class) I'd welcome contact with anybody in SW Wiltshire.

Richard

It is possible that it was scratch built from plans. Unfortunately Model Boats and MMI plans are currently not available due to the demise of MMI who had taken over Model Boats plan service,

Well whatever it is - and it is not ABS but all wooden - it is now fully restored and running well.
