Hi,

My name is Rick and I live in Port Macquarie on the East coast of Australia.

Although I usually sail Marblehead in competition I have just started to dabble with Footy Yachts.

I am a member of Model Boats Mayhem and I saw an article on a Row Boat. The build log is on this web site.

I emailed the person concerned and only five days later I am looking at a black box, about the size of a small receiver.

The post in Australia and the distances from major cities means that some parcels can take a fortnight or more to arrive.

Regards

Welcome to the club,

The row boat in question would be my project which is currently sat idle on the shelf awaiting good weather for paint  (typical British weather).

I'm glad to see my blog has inspired  a few to take up the challenge to build their own, good luck! Post a blog on it!

As for your yachts I like the smaller scale yachts and have built many of the "wee nips" all In The "rag and sail" section of the forum.

Always fancied a footy I might pop that on my to do list once I finish the outstanding 11, since lesro have started reproduction kits of it.

Hi,

I have always wanted to try the rowboat but I am mechanically challenged . The nearest I got was a figure, servo driven, sculling an oar over the stern.

When that lost its appeal I added a keel and sails and used the figure to steer it.

I think I can work out the measurements of the various fittings from the build log which I shall visit often.

I have also started to build a 1/72 scale working model of Dad's wartime ship. Biggest problem is that there are no plans available but I do have a very good photograph of the ship and one of the original crew sent me his height as I can see him on the deck. Using the portholes and other bits like the radar I have a pretty accurate model underway.

Regarding the Footies, I have a Racing Footy and am starting to build a Chinese Sailing Junk and a Thames Sailing Barge both 12 inches long.

But as is normal a good friend sent me the battered hull of a yacht and has asked me to restore it.

Regards

The rowing boat was to be honest a challenge, something hard to find to test the brain cells when it comes to models.

Building at 1:12 scale was also a huge challenge as everything had to be so much smaller.. my recommendation would be to build at 1:6 to avoid issues!!!

Any questions just post them on my blog and i'll attempt to answer as many and as detailed as possible and if you need extra photos just ask!

Overall i'm happy with the boats outcome now, but i its a working test bed for a later model i'll build at 1:12 as a full replica rather then a model that works but isn't quite right. Again this is simply down to the scale being so small.

To many projects but i would like to make a future full mechanical (all motor and gears) version possibly a multi rower or maybe something more update and modern like a solar challenger, fortunately the multi rowers tend to have rudders which does make things a little easier in the steering department!

Time will tell i usually get side tracked a lot by other projects that take my fancy.
