This vessel came to me courtosey of a good friend from the previous RCMB forum who found it in a yard sale of sorts

a little research turned this up

and many hours of patient work and some blue air moments she's come out as a really nice model.

thanks Kenny it was very pleasing to get her back to this state. she still needs a light switching unit as there are a total of 26 lights on here now that need switching in 4 different groups. I've got plans to get the action 4 way switching unit for this.

The lights are :cabin, bridge/navigation, trawl and deck lights

It's great when old and seemingly broken models get a second chance.
And very nice it is when the result is like this.
Great job Phil

Great job Phil, I've a few questions I hope you can help me with though. I won one of these on fleabay for a whopping £4-99 back in the summer but has no prop or shaft and no rudder either, any chance of some sizes for these please and also what motor/battery combination you used. Thanks, Grub.

Oops, having drank the Magic Mead I misunderstood your 'I've bought one of these' comment. Lol that your signature is Bananas - says a lot. I did grow a Banana tree once - boy do they grow fast. Forgot to bring it indoors though and Jack Frost had it.

Good grief I owe some one an apology here. Sorry mate totally forgot about this thread.

the prop is a 35mm 3 blade driven by a 385 motor on 7.2v the rudder on mine is the one that was fitted when I got it and the pics give you an idea of size. inside the linkage space is tight yo the rear of the hull and a bit of a challenge

hope this is of some help

Cheers Phil, I bodged it together on Sunday Laughing , Jack was desperate to give it a go so I went to Howes and just bought a 385, a light duty prop shaft and 35mm prop and a medium brass rudder. Looks great in the bath (oops, domestic test tank) although there is some water ingress and I can't see where it's coming in, then to top it all off I took him down to Jubilee lake to give it a go and it was frozen solid Rolling Eyes .

Just had a proper look at the pics of your boat and to my eye she seems to be in very good almost original condition, just a couple of items i see missing, one is the life boats and davits and if you give mark of marks model bits in newport a ring and ask nicely and mention my name, he may still have the masters for the replacement boats he resin cast for me and if i can find time this weekend i'll get a tracing of the davits and the the the other item the haul gallows to send to you they are made from 3mm ply or possibly balsa thats assuming you want to fit them.

one possibility for the water ingress is inadequate grease in the prop shaft tube especially noticable if reversing a lot as i assume you haven't got the same issue i had with mine at 1st with the ply keel de-laminating. solved buy using a syringe to inject epoxy resin then clamping with lots of spring clamps then i coated the inside with grp resin that solved the issue

Thanks Phil, I'll give Mark a ring if you fancy sending me the davit templates, as for the water I think it may be where I drilled for the rudder post; I drilled it and it was largely filler so I lost maybe a little more than I should. You are right though about getting at the rudder post, bit of a bugger with fingers like sausages Laughing .

No probs Grub will get on to it fri or sat.

Windy I do believe that drawings are available to make one of these from scratch the only slightly complicated bit really is the bread and butter style hull and even that could easily be fabricated from 1/2" balsa and 1/8th ply, as the original is.

I may even be able to put some drawings together (free of course due to copyright issues) if you fancy a go. the superstructure is all from 1mm and 1.5mm ply

Thanks for the offer Phil but it won't get done for a few years!!!!! At the moment I am working on a 1/12th pilot boat and next on the slipway is a Dromedary class paddle tug followed by a modern 3310 tug followed by an ocean going salvage tug followed by a transport coaster... Ect Ect..........

I reckon I might be able to pencil it in around 2025!!!!!

I've been looking at this trawler site lately

http://bostondeepseafishing.com/trawlers.php

and just thought I'd post it up as some vessels are

very similar and might be of interest.
