Since last September the Dreaded taxman from HMRC has been hounding me and my ex wife for an overpayment of Child Tax Credit...to the tune of £3917.67p for a period of 10 months from when we separated till last September .....
an amount, might I add which was considerably MORE than we were actually paid.
We both appealed to the appeals section, only to both be TOTALLY IGNORED by HMRC......
so in the end a month ago I wrote to the Chief exec of HMRC, to the Prime Minister, the chancellor of the exchequer and my own MP sending copies of all the letters we had written.
I got replies from 10 downing street and my own MP saying that they had forwarded on my complaint to the Chief exec of HMRC and asked her to sort it out?
Well, just 5 days ago I received a letter ( no apology, mind you, for the mistake) saying that they had reviewed my case and due to circumstances written in the latest letter ( never mind about the letters of appeal that we both sent over the past 4 months) they had re calculated the overpayment to £664.......a massive drop of £3300 approx........
Had I not been more stoic and resilient, and bombastic in my approach to making the appeals heard, and paid up when asked.................would these jokers ever have admitted to me that they had overcharged me by £3300 sobs................I THINK NOT.......
So guys and gals............if you are ever in a similar predicament....then go to the top.........complain to where the buck finally rests................HMRC don't like being challenged , especially BY the Prime minster/secretary.
had I been of a week or fragile nature after my split with my wife, anything could have happened?? I dare not think how some people who face such disgusting behaviour from these robbers would take the news and react...........
