Sanding sealer Empty
PostSubject: Sanding sealer   Sanding sealer EmptySun Mar 18, 2012 9:56 pm

After sealing some small balsa boats (Air boats) with sanding sealer, sanding in between coats and leaving enough time for each coat to dry, then primer and top coats resulting in a realy good finish.

But then after a short time, a couple of weeks or so, there are tiny hair line cracks all over the finished surface.

Any thoughts lads.

Was there any moisture in the balsa at all before you sealed it? Just a thought.

It doesn't help you Alan, but I now use Easy Kote to seal Balsa etc. Its a water based resin that really hardens balsa. It can be used with glass fibre or tissue, or just on its own.

Gribeauval is correct - its a Deluxe Materials product, but its Eze-Kote - my mistake Rolling Eyes I think I probably bought mine from Squires.

This sanding sealer is it turpentine based or Acetone based no one seems to know what I'm talking about when I ask about it here in Oz.

Damien,

Its based on aircraft dope - people used to make it by adding talcum powder to clear dope, although the stuff you can buy uses a different filler I think.
